Underlay for Carpets

A good quality underlay can increase the life of a carpet by up to 40% apart from giving extra comfort and warmth to the carpet. It can also help the appearance of the finished installation by lessening the unevenness affect of floorboards. Carpet underlay falls into several categories: Blown rubber, Foam chip, Crumb rubber, Wool felt and composite underlay's i.e. felt and rubber combined.

The above underlay's are just some of the many standard available products. They are mostly of the same thickness but vary in the gauge and purity of the rubber. The colour of an underlay is no indication as to the overall quality of the product nor is weight as impurities are sometimes added to make this up.
